Tips to Restore Your Skin’s Glow This Winter

Dry, cracked, and chapped skin is all too common during the colder months and can really put a damper on your style. Skin inevitably gets drier during the winter due to the low humidity, but your soap may be adding to your flakey woes. Soap can strip your skin of its natural oils, reducing your protective moisture barrier. Fortunately for your skin, the Wall Street Journal recently reported on some tips to keep you smooth and soft throughout the winter:

  • Try using one of the oil-based body or face cleansers that have recently been popping up on store shelves. These cleansers contain lipids, which mimic the skin’s composition to help maintain moisture. The lipids gently wash off the day’s build-up without stripping away the skin's natural protective oils.
  • Follow dermatologists’ advice and use cleansers sparingly: Don’t use cleansers on your arms and legs every day—just wash the parts that really need it, like your arm pits.
  • Seal in moisture further by applying a ceramide-rich cream or quick-absorbing dry oil after your shower while you’re still wet.
